Eat or Hike? Three Safe Ways to Plan Anjirang
Separate offal-alley dining, a short valley walk, and a full Apsan hike instead of stacking incompatible plans.

QUICK ANSWER
The short answer
Choose one Anjirang branch: a two-hour food-alley evening, a short daylight valley walk followed by dinner, or a separate 4–5-hour Apsan hike. Nam-gu describes the Anjirang-valley climb to the observatory as about 2.5 km and one hour uphill, but descent and rest are extra. The cable car starts from the Keungol side, not this trail.
- Start
- Line 1, Exit 3
- Food alley
- About 500 m; around 50 shops
- Choose
- Meal / short walk / hike
- Observatory

CHOOSE A BRANCH 01
Anjirang is three branches, not one checklist
Choose for your body, time, and diet.
A relaxed meal, a low daylight walk before dinner, and a full Apsan hike require different energy. Combining all three creates darkness and digestive risk.
Hikers should start early and eat lightly after descent. Visitors with strict dietary needs may observe the alley and dine elsewhere.

CHOOSE A BRANCH 02
An alley becomes a district through many small businesses
Read the cluster, not only an “original” sign.
Daegu Tourism traces the alley to around 1979 and describes roughly 50 restaurants. Its identity grew through many businesses and local customers.
Shop count and hours change. Compare ventilation, seating, menu clarity, and accessibility; ask before photographing staff or diners.

CHOOSE A BRANCH 03
“Gopchang” does not identify one animal or organ
Confirm animal, cut, portion, price, and doneness.
Menus may include beef or pork intestines and other offal. Ask about minimum orders and final cost, and eat organ meat fully cooked.
Religious, ethical, allergy, gluten, or nut restrictions require questions about sauces and shared grills. Choose a ventilated seat or shorten the stay if smoke is difficult.

CHOOSE A BRANCH 04
Grill safety determines the rest of the evening
Separate utensils, manage flame, and make alcohol optional.
Use different tongs for raw and cooked food, ask staff when fat causes a flare-up, and keep bags away from hot plates and aisles.
Alcohol is not required. Never follow a heavy meal or drinking session with a steep or dark mountain walk.

CHOOSE A BRANCH 05
The Anjirang trail and cable car do not share an entrance
Walking and riding require different transport plans.
The official 2.5 km, one-hour figure is an uphill reference, not a round trip. Add descent, rest, navigation, weather, and your own pace.
The cable car is on the Keungol side. Check its access and operation separately, and carry shoes, water, daylight margin, and a light for any real hike.

CHOOSE A BRANCH 06
A good ending leaves one branch unused
Turn back when darkness, weather, or discomfort rises.
A changed forecast or tired companion is enough reason to stop at the valley entrance. Seal takeaway food and return before the final train.
Food and mountain do not form a completion score. Leaving one for another day is the safer, deeper itinerary.
