3, 5 or 7 days in Korea: how many cities?
Count usable days and hotel moves before adding attractions. These are planning options that leave breathing room, not rules.
The 3-, 5- and 7-day examples count calendar days including arrival and departure. With a late arrival and early flight home, only the middle days are fully usable. Write down flights first; do not count an intercity transfer as another full sightseeing day.
3 days · one city base
- Consider it when
- Start with one Seoul base if arriving there, or one Busan base if arriving there. Keep arrival day near your accommodation, use the middle day for your priority area, and protect the airport journey on departure day.
- The trade-off
- Combining Seoul and Busan can consume your main sightseeing time with checkout and rail travel. If flights already require both cities, drop extra day trips and choose one area in each.
- Check before deciding
- Check that one must-do experience still fits if arrival is delayed.
5 days · one city, optional side trip
- Consider it when
- For a first visit, compare staying in one hotel, exploring the city and keeping a flexible day. A nearby side trip depends on weather and energy. A Seoul–Busan split is an alternative when both cities are core goals.
- The trade-off
- Two cities may mean giving up a side trip or shopping time. Before splitting four nights between two hotels, include luggage storage and check-in on the transfer day.
- Check before deciding
- Calculate from one hotel door to the next—not only time aboard the train.

7 days · room to consider two cities
- Consider it when
- With six nights, compare three in Seoul and three in Busan. Reverse the order if entering through Busan; six nights in one city with optional side trips is also a valid choice.
- The trade-off
- If flying out of Incheon after a final night in Busan, assess the flight connection separately. Consider a final night with easier access to your departure airport and drop a third city if needed.
- Check before deciding
- Confirm train availability, hotel cancellation terms and departure airport before fixing the city order. Allow extra flexibility around holidays.
A choice that keeps the trip manageable
Treat Daegu, Gwangju and Daejeon as alternatives chosen for a purpose, not filler stops. With children, older companions or bulky luggage, first consider reducing hotel moves rather than squeezing in more sights.
