Daegu in four or eight hours: modern alleys, market and lake
Visit order · Times are planning allowances, not measured travel or opening hours. Hotel travel is extra.
Short on time
Drop Suseongmot first; if the 4-hour core runs late, also skip Jingolmok.
Weather / admission changes
Museum (60–90 min) and lunch near Jungangno instead of lanes/lake. If closed, eat and finish.
Pins mark route anchors, not guaranteed restaurant/gallery/lift entrances. Confirm access on the day. Maps need internet; PDF links are clickable. On paper, search the Korean names.

Entrance / access
Pin “대구근대역사관”, 67 Gyeongsanggamyeong-gil, Jung-gu, not the broad Modern Alley area. Tourism information separates permanent galleries on 1F and special exhibitions on 2F; start with 1F and check today’s upstairs show.
대구근대역사관 경상감영길 67 ↗Avoid the wrong turn
Museum → Jingolmok → Seomun Market. Once you choose a stall, pin that stall rather than the whole multi-section market. Suseongmot is an 8-hour option, never a required stop that displaces the 4-hour return (editorial advice).
서문시장 대구 ↗Storage / collection
Museum storage location/size for large suitcases is unverified. Ask before departure; otherwise store at your hotel first. Do not build the route around wheeling a large bag through narrow market aisles.

Realistic pace
Flexible · 4-hour core / 8-hour full day
Why this order works
The central alleys and market form the reliable core. The lake is an extension only when weather, daylight and energy support it.
REALISTIC ROUTE
Your day, step by step
The core is 90+90+60 min. Suseongmot adds a separate 150–210 min for travel, walking and return; with queues and breaks, allow roughly 7–8 hours. Verify live routes and train times.
These are research-based planning allowances, not measured journey records or operator guarantees. Adjust for bookings, queues and your mobility needs.

PLAN B
How to adapt on the day
If time is short
Drop Suseongmot first. If the four-hour core slips, omit Jin Alley and retain the museum plus food at Seomun.
Rain or unavailable admission
Drop Suseongmot and Jin Alley; walk from Jungangno to the Modern History Museum for 60–90 min, then eat near Jungangno. Check closure notices, including Mondays. If closed, finish after food rather than forcing a wet walk to Seomun.
When not to proceed
A night-market arrival cannot use the daytime museum/market sequence unchanged. Reschedule if none of your intended stops are open.
What to check before you go
- The March 1st Movement stairway is not a required segment. If avoiding stairs, check gradients and crossings on the surface route.
- Do not plan on dragging suitcases through market aisles. Museum workshops/group bookings differ from general admission; participation is not assumed.
- Market plus lake is the full-day option.
- Church and museum admission differs from access to public lanes.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is the lake part of the four-hour route?+
No. Combining the central walk, market and lake compresses food and return time.
Is Seomun Night Market included?+
No; this uses the day market. For the night market, verify its dates and choose it instead of the lake evening.
Must I take the subway from Jungangno to the market?+
No. Walking may suit your position after exploring the alleys. Compare from where you actually are, not only station to station.
