Last check before you go
Check closures, bookings and weather. With large bags, arrange storage and a collection time before setting out.
Recheck last trains, transfers, works and lift availability.
Check the origin, interchange and destination separately. Maintenance can change the route, so ask station staff for day-of help.
Times vary by line, direction, weekday, weekend and holiday. For a late trip, verify the last possible interchange too.
The map links named places only. Add your chosen restaurant, performance or rest stop separately. Recheck last trains, works and facility outages with the official operator.
CHAPTER 01
Read the greenhouse differently from the outdoor garden
The cactus photograph shows one plant environment, not the whole arboretum.
Compare thick stems, spine patterns and water-storing shapes in the greenhouse; outdoors, switch your attention to shade and leaf texture. Finding contrasting survival strategies gives the walk more purpose than collecting similar flower pictures.
Check greenhouse access at the entrance before committing to it. Use the outdoor collections if it is closed. Flowering and display arrangements in a historical photograph are not a forecast for your visit.
CHAPTER 02
Look beneath the garden's appearance
The change in land use is as important as the plants.
Daegu's official account identifies the site as a landfill used from 1986 to 1990. Knowing that it was restored as an arboretum turns planted beds and paths into a story about how a city reuses land.
A photograph cannot establish soil conditions or measure restoration success. Read the interpretation panels for the history and the plant labels for botany, keeping to visitor paths rather than entering maintenance areas.
CHAPTER 03
Arrival at Daegok is not arrival at the garden
Allow separately for the final journey from the station.
Save 대구수목원 or 342 Hwaam-ro, Dalseo-gu, Daegu as the destination. Saving only Daegok Station leaves the last leg unresolved. Check the return stop separately before setting out.
In heat or heavy rain, shorten the observation loop or postpone the outdoor visit. A greenhouse is not an automatic wet-weather substitute: verify that it is open and consider the outdoor approach too.
CHAPTER 04
Read leaves and labels when flowers are scarce
A visit can work even when it differs from the flowering photographs.
Pair a plant’s label with its leaves and growing position. One identifiable specimen is easier to research later than many unnamed flowers. A seasonal difference from a photograph is not by itself evidence of poor care.
A medicinal-plant explanation is not permission to taste or collect it. Observe from visitor paths. Each companion can choose a different leaf to compare without turning the visit into a long circuit.
CHAPTER 05
What a green photograph cannot tell you
Garden appearance and ecological outcomes are different kinds of evidence.
Daegu presents the site as a conversion from landfill to arboretum. Compare past use with present planting, but do not infer soil or ecosystem condition from greenery alone. Keep the panel’s explanation separate from what you observed.
Afterward, record a plant name or a particular space rather than only many flowers. Maintenance work is not an invitation to follow staff into restricted areas. Use the city reference below for further context about the conversion.
CHAPTER 06
Skip one last collection to keep the return comfortable
Leaving a garden bed is not arrival at Daegok Station.
Allow time from your final observation point to the exit. An unseen greenhouse can be omitted if the extra out-and-back is too much. Recalculate from your current position, not the entrance pin saved earlier.
After an early finish in heat or rain, you need not fill the original time allowance elsewhere. Choose rest and onward transport first. A bus or taxi still requires reaching its boarding point, so begin returning before your companion is exhausted.

FOR INTERNATIONAL TRAVELERS
What to verify during the trip
- Seasonal gardens, greenhouses and exhibitions may keep different hours. Omit outdoor walking or postpone in extreme heat or heavy rain; a greenhouse is an option only if open and safely reachable.
- Keep Korean place names and your accommodation address offline.
- Check opening, transport, events and weather separately.
- Ask before photographing people, interiors or working areas.
- Drop the final stop when fatigue, darkness or uncertainty grows.
- Call 1330 for tourist help, 112 for police and 119 for fire or ambulance.
