Two days in Seoul: Seongsu and Mangwon
Separate Seongsu and Mangwon to avoid crossing the city twice: a six-hour first day, a lighter second day and an indoor fallback.

THE SHORT ANSWER
Split Gyeongbokgung and Seongsu onto day one, Mangwon Market and Mangwon Hangang Park onto day two. Do not append the one-day guide’s Anguk, Insadong and Myeongdong stops. In Seongsu, prioritize either Seoul Forest or shops; on a wet second day replace the riverside with the National Museum of Korea.

Two days in Seoul: Seongsu and Mangwon
Visit order · Times are planning allowances, not measured travel or opening hours. Hotel travel is extra.
Short on time
Drop Seoul Forest on day 1 or Mangwon Hangang Park on day 2; keep lunch and the return.
Weather / admission changes
Day 2: National Museum of Korea instead of the river, if open. Allow 60 min for Mangwon → Samgakji → Ichon.
Pins mark route anchors, not guaranteed restaurant/gallery/lift entrances. Confirm access on the day. Maps need internet; PDF links are clickable. On paper, search the Korean names.

Best for
Visitors with two Seoul days who want palaces, neighborhoods and the river
Realistic pace
Moderate first day, lighter second day · parks only in suitable weather
Why this order works
Keep the eastward Seongsu day separate from western Mangwon. Avoid crossing Seongsu–Mangwon on the same day. With rain forecast, go directly from your accommodation to Ichon; if already at Mangwon Market, take Line 6 to Samgakji and change to Line 4 for Ichon.
REALISTIC ROUTE
Your day, step by step
Day one: 120+60+60+120=360 min (6h). Day two: 105+120+45=270 min (4h30). These editorial budgets include meals, access and breaks, but exclude hotel travel. Leave day two shorter for departure or rest. The indoor alternative has its own travel allowance.

Day 1 · 120 min
Gyeongbokgung: Geunjeongjeon and Gyeonghoeru area
Allow 30 min for access/ticketing and 90 inside. Changdeokgung’s Secret Garden and special Gyeonghoeru visits need separate planning. On the usual Tuesday closure, replace only this block with the Craft Museum at Anguk, after checking it is open.
Destination map · 경복궁 서울 - 2
Day 1 · 60 min
Lunch and a seated break outside the palace
Allow 15 min to reach/order at a restaurant and 45 for eating/rest. This is not an additional Tongin Market tour. A long queue delays Seongsu, so prioritize available seating.

Day 1 · 60 min
Line 3 → Euljiro 3-ga → Line 2 to Seongsu
Budget 15 min to the station, 35 for trains/transfer/waiting and 10 to orient at Seongsu. Recheck live routing before departure. Resolve large-bag storage at your accommodation before the transfer.

Day 1 · 120 min
Choose Yeonmujang-gil shops or Seoul Forest
For shops, allow 75 min around Yeonmujang-gil and 45 for a café. For Seoul Forest, allow 60 min total approach/return and 60 in the park, with no popup queue. Popups have date-specific bookings; no particular event is promised.
Destination map · 연무장길 서울 - 5
Day 2 · 105 min
Mangwon Station → lunch at Mangwon Market
Allow 15 min to the market, 30 browsing and 60 for queues/food. Stalls do not share one guaranteed opening time. Eating here rather than carrying a picnic reduces baggage and rubbish on the riverside walk.

Day 2 · 120 min
Mangwon Hangang Park: stay near your access point
Allow 35 min for walking/navigation to a signed park entrance, 45 for a riverside stroll and 40 seated. Follow park access signs, never shortcut across a road. This is not a walk all the way to Yeouido.

Day 2 · 45 min
Return to Mangwon Station and finish
Reserve 45 min for returning, toilets and navigation. On a departure day, add accommodation bag pickup and airport travel afterward. Do not automatically append Hongdae shopping.

PLAN B
How to adapt on the day
If time is short
If tired on day one, omit Seoul Forest and choose Yeonmujang-gil plus a café. On a short second day, drop the whole Hangang Park block and return after the market meal instead of rushing both.
Rain or closures
On day two, rain, strong wind or riverside restrictions mean no Mangwon Hangang Park. Substitute the National Museum: Mangwon Line 6 → Samgakji Line 4 → Ichon, allowing 60 min access/transfers plus 120 for galleries. If the museum is also closed, return to accommodation or end with an indoor rest.
When to change the plan
Do not follow the original plan without resolving Tuesday palace closure and museum opening, or with riverside restrictions/heavy-rain warnings. If storage or lift access is essential, verify it before transfers and the riverside walk.
What to check before you go
- Swap the days to fit palace opening and riverside weather.
- With a booked Seongsu popup, protect that time and shorten the palace visit rather than adding more popups.
- Shade, wind exposure and toilet distances vary along the river; choose indoors in heat or strong wind.
- The National Museum fallback is for permanent galleries. Check paid special exhibitions and guided bookings separately.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Can I add Myeongdong and Bukchon too?+
Only by replacing a district such as Seongsu or the Mangwon/river day. This plan contrasts two different days rather than checking off every Seoul landmark.
Is the Mangwon day suitable before a flight?+
The 4h30 starts and ends at Mangwon Station. Protect bag pickup, airport travel and airline check-in time first; if the remainder is too short, omit the river.
Why not combine Seoul Forest with several popups?+
The Seongsu block allows one main purpose. Park access plus event queues displace dinner or rest. With one booked event, leave the park for another visit.
