Daejeon Science Festival: meet the future in an Expo city
A science festival in Daejeon can do more than offer many gadgets to try. It lets you compare a city’s memory of Expo 1993 with the way it explains AI and robotics today. For a family visit, we suggest leaving with one question you can explain rather than simply a large number of completed activities.

Confirmed edition dates · 2026 edition
The city’s 2026 edition ran 17–19 April and has ended. Do not reuse older autumn dates for the next edition. Future dates and venue arrangements need a new official announcement.
Official website ↗One explainable question, not an activity count
Where an expo memory becomes a new science conversation
Daejeon’s 2013 account describes a science festival looking back at Expo 1993 on its twentieth anniversary. The 2026 programme instead foregrounded AI, robotics and research. This offers a way to read how a city’s language of the future changes. It does not mean the current festival began in its present form in 1993.
Three entry points, chosen by curiosity
Viewing questions based on the 2026 programme, not age-based admission guarantees or a confirmed next-edition schedule.
AI
For making things · AI ART SCHOOL
The 2026 DCC AI Station described classes including AI video and 3D modelling. Ask what changes when the input changes, then choose only if booking eligibility and language suit your group.
대전컨벤션센터 제2전시장 ↗ROBOT
For movement · the AI Robotics Zone
Look beyond whether a robot resembles a person: what task does it perform and how does it notice its surroundings? Distinguish a timed demonstration from hands-on access.
대전컨벤션센터 제2전시장 ↗FLIGHT
For a physical experiment · paper planes
The 2026 Expo Civic Plaza programme included making and flying paper planes. Our suggested exercise is to change one part of a wing and compare, rather than changing everything at once.
엑스포시민광장 대전 ↗DCC and Expo Civic Plaza are not the same building. Choose one venue first and leave another optional so travel does not consume the activity time.
If you can explain it on the train home
After an activity, ask what changed and what happened, rather than only whether it was fun. Recall an input used for a generated image, the relationship between sensing and robot movement, or a paper plane’s wing shape and path. This is a conversation in your own words, not a test to memorise an answer.
A family plan centred on one booked activity
These plans draw on official announcements. Travel and visit times are suggested allowances for queues and breaks, not field measurements. The event’s current access restrictions and instructions take priority.
01 · 30–50 min transfer allowance including waiting
Transfer from Government Complex to the booked venue
대전컨벤션센터 제2전시장
The sample starts at DCC Hall 2. Change the destination to the National Science Museum if that is where you booked.

대전컨벤션센터 제2전시장
Keep the booked activity first and use exhibits in the same building around it to reduce transfers.

A short Expo Bridge walk, or return directly
엑스포다리 대전
Skip this in rain or before a tight train. Do not add the arboretum, science museum and bridge all after a full activity session.

Practical details before you travel
Who this trip suits
Choose it for science-minded families or an exhibition-focused day. Children’s activities may have age and reservation conditions. If several popular sessions are not confirmed, anchor the day to one available experience rather than planning a full day of queues.
Station to event entrance
Government Complex Station still requires onward travel. DCC Hall 2, Expo Citizens’ Square and the National Science Museum do not share an entrance. Save the exact booked venue, check a current bus or taxi route and avoid treating the event as directly outside the metro.
Booking, costs and preparation
Check session time, age, accompanying-adult and language conditions first. Festival booths and National Science Museum permanent or special exhibitions may have separate admission and booking rules. Confirm which exhibits remain available if a workshop sells out.
Getting home and managing crowds
Allow the return connection from DCC or the museum to the metro before choosing a Daejeon KTX departure. Bus waiting and festival exit time are separate from exhibition time. Drop Hanbat Arboretum or a night bridge walk first on a train-departure day.
Rain, cancellation and sold-out alternatives
In rain, drop outdoor workshops and the arboretum. Choose either a confirmed indoor DCC programme or the National Science Museum, verifying opening and admission first. They are not one connected indoor venue. If sessions are sold out, check ordinary exhibition access.
Questions before you go
Can I reach the venue by metro alone?
This plan assumes onward bus or taxi travel after the metro. Check the actual bus route and boarding point for your visit date.
Can I book around an older autumn schedule?
No. The confirmed 2026 edition was in April. Do not infer the next season from older editions; book around the next official announcement.
